MARSTIUND, VILHELM NIKOLAJ, born at Copenhagen, Dec. 24, 1810, died there, March 23, 1873. History and genre painter, pupil of Co- pcnhagen A c a d e m y under Eck e r s b e r g ; went in 1830 to Mu- nich and Rome ; in 1848 became profes- sor at, and in 1853- 59 was director of, Copenhagen Academy. Especially successful in humorous genre scenes. Member of Copenhagen Academy and medal in 1841. Weber, and in Paris of Lambinet ; studied much after Corot, Diaz, and Daubiguy, whose manner greatly influ- enced his art.
