THOMPSON, CEPHAS GIOVANNI, born in Middle borough, Mass., Aug. 3, 1809. Portrait and figure painter, sou and pupil of Cephas Thompson, but mostly self-taught. He has painted in Boston, Providence, Phil- adelphia, New York, and in other cities in the United States. In 1852 visited Lon- don, Paris, Florence, and Rome, where he spent seven years.
