Painted after 1492 ; one of a series of pictures for the boudoir of Isabella, Marchioness of Mantua ; carried off by the Germans at sack of Man- tua in 1630 ; passed into France ; for a time in palace of Due de Richelieu at Richelieu. Lived in Venice about 1663, and, as Jacob van Ruisdael often painted the backgrounds for his pictures, he must have been settled in Amsterdam about 1670.
