French school ; history and portrait painter, son and pupil of Jean Pierre Rivalz (1625- 1706), then studied in Paris and in Rome, where he received the first prize of the Ac- cademia di San Luca from the hands of Pope Clement XI. After his return to his native city he painted, during thirty years, many pictures relating to its history, and in 1726 established an art school, which was raised to the rank of an academy in 1750.
