WILTON, Earl of, His lordship's predecessor was Sir Thomas Egerton, 7th Bart, who was raised to the peerage as Baron Grey de Wilton, in 1784 : m. 1769, Eleanor, daughter of Sir Ralph Assheton, Bart. In 1801, in consequence of the death of all his children but a daughter, Eleanor, he obtained a new patent, creating him Earl or Wilton and Viscount Grey de Wilton, with remainder to the younger sons of this daughter, (who had married the 1st Marquess of Westminster) : and d. Sept. 23, 1814, when the Earldom and Viscounty devolved on his grandson, the Barony of Grey de Wilton became extinct, and the Baronetcy reverted to John Grey Egerton, Esq. of Oulton-park.
