John Magee, Vicar of St. Peter's, Drogheda, and grandson of the Most Rev. William Magee, D.D. Archbishop of Dublin. Born 1821 ; was educated at Kilkenny School, and Trinity College, Dublin, (B.A. 1842, M.A. B.D. 1854, D.D, 1859, and Hon. D.C.L. of Oxford 1870) ; was ordained Deacon by the Bishop of Chester, 1844, and Priest, by the late Bishop of Tuam, 1845; was Curate of St. Thomas's, Dublin, and of St. Saviour's, Bath; was Minister of the Octagon Chapel in the latter city ; was nominated to a Hon. Canonry of Wells Cathedral, 1859; was Minister of Quebec Chapel, Portman- square, London, and transferred, by the Board of Trinity College, Dublin, to the Precentor- ship of Clogher, and the Rectory of Enniskillen ; was advanced to the Deanery of Cork, 1864, and to the Deanery of the Chapel Royal, Dublin, 1866. Consecrated 26th Bishop of Peterborough, 1868; is Patron of 60 Livings, the Chancellorship, the Archdeaconries of Northampton and Leicester, and the four Canonries of his Cathedral: married (1851) Anne Nisbitt, 2nd daughter of the Rev. Charles Smith, Rector of Arklow, Ireland, and has issue, living, 'Sons, Charles Smith, b. I86l. William Gurney, b. 1862. John Arthur, b. 1869. Daughters, Eleanor. Anne. Harriette. This Bishopric was founded by Henry VIII. in 1541, from the dissolved lands of the Abbey of St. Peter's, founded by one of the kings of Mercia, in 6SQ. Born 181 6 ; was educated at Queens' College, Cambridge, (B.A. 1841, M.A. 1848, D.D. 1857) ; was Incumbent ot St: John's, Clapham-rise, 1845 51, Rector of St. Giles's- in -the- Fields, 1851 6, and Canon Residentiary and Treasurer of Salisbury Cathedral, 1854 6. Conse- crated 2nd Bishop of Ripon, 1857 ; is Patron of 68 Livings, all the Canonries in Ripon Cathedral, and the two Archdeaconries of Craven and Richmond: married (1846) Elizabeth, daughter of Joseph Garde, Esq. of co. Cork, and has issue, living, Sons, Robert, b. 1847 ; educated at Eton, and at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, (B.A 1869); is one of Her Majesty's Sub- Inspectors of Factories, and Sub-Lieut, in the Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry Cavalry.
