His lordship's predecessor was his father, Henry, 1st Baron Annaly, son of the late Luke White, Esq., of Woodlands, sometime M. P. for Leitrim. He was b. 1790, and was educated at Trinity College, Dublin. Sat as M.P. for Dublin co. 182332, and for Longford co. 183741, and 185761 ; was Lord Lieut, of co. Longford, and Col. of the Longford Militia : m. 1828, Ellen, who d. 1868 eldest daughter of W. S. Dempster, of Skibo Castle, N.B. He d. Sept. 1873, leaving issue two sons and two daughters. ANNESLEY, EARL. (ANNESLEY.) HUGH ANNESLEY, 5th Earl, in the Peerage of Ireland. Born Jan. 31st, 1831 ; succeeded his brother 1874. Edu- cated at Eton, and at Trinity College, Dublin (B.A. 1849). Entered the 43rd Light Infantry 1851, served in the Kaffir War 1851 3, and was severely wounded at the battle of Berea 1852 ; exchanged to the Scots Fusilier Guards as Ensign and Lieut. 1853 ; served in the Crimean war, and was severely wounded at the Alma 1854; appointed Lieut, and Capt. 1855, and Capt. and Lieut.-Col. I860, retired 1871 ; has the Kaffir War medal, the Crimean medal and clasps, and the Turkish war medal. Is a Magistrate for co. Down. Sat as M.P. for co. Cavan 185774. From the love ot valour.
