The Sire de Cailly (or Cayley). from Cailly in Normandy, was one of the followers of William the Conqueror, and is celebrated in the Roman de Ron. His descendants were settled in Norfolk for three centuries, when the chief representative of the family removed to Yorkshire, where his descend- ants have since remained. The ist baronet, Sir William Cayley, was knighted by Charles I., and created a baronet by Charles II., for his services in the Civil War.
