The 2nd baronet was a Baron of the Exchequer of Scotland 1707-55. The 6th baronet, a Privy Councillor, was M. P. for Edinburghshire (C) 1818-32 and 1835-7, f r Stamford 1838-47, and for Dover 1847-52, and during his political career, held office in several administrations.
