What God has willed, This family, descended from the ancient Welsh kings of Powysland, was sealed at Kilhendre, Salop, temp. Henry I. The first who assumed the name of Edwardes was John ap David ap Madoc, of Kilhendre, temp. Henry VII.; he was great-great-grandfather of Sir Thomas Edwardes, who for his eminent services to Charles I. was created a baronet in 1644. The patent, however, having been lost during the disturbances of those times, a new one as granted to his son, Sir Francis, by Charles II., in 1678, with prece- uiill be accomplished, dence according to the warrant granted to his father.
