Sir Walter Minto Townsend- Farquhar, and baronet, M.P., who d. 1866. Residence, Dale Lodge, Grasmere, Westmoreland. Sir Robert Farquhar, Knt., of Munie, a younger member of the ancient family of Farquhar of Gilminscroft, was Deputy-Receiver of Scotland 1644, and Provost of Aberdeen 1646. His great-great- grandson Sir Robert, ist baronet, first British Governor and Cpmmander-in-Chief of the Mauritius, second son of Sir Walter Farquhar, Bart., of Cadogan House, Middlesex, distinguished himself by his able government of the colony from its conquest. He was for some years Governor of the East India Co., and successively M. P. for Hythe and Canterbury. The 2nd baronet, Sir Minto, was in the diplomatic service, and sat as M.P. for Hertford. The 3rd baronet, Sir Eric, entered the diplomatic service, and died of fever at Pekin whilst Secretary of Legation. The sth baronet, Sir John, served throughout the siege of Lucknow in the cavalry, and afterwards held various staff appointments in India. Mente manuque. Ey mind and hand.
