The 2nd baronet, Sir Peter Halkett, a Lieut.-Col. of the English troops at the battle of Gladsmuir was taken prisoner and liberated on parole. On his return the Duke of Cumberland ordered him to rejoin his regiment or forfeit his commission ; he returned for answer that, " His Royal Highness was master of his commission, but not of his honor," a reply that was approved by the Government.
