In this Index, modern names are distinguished from ancient by being printed in italics. The references are to the first volume, unless they have ii. prefixed. The letter a refers to the first column of the page, b to the second.
Names which occur in the alphabetical arrangement of the Work itself appear in the Index only when additional information respecting them is given incidentally in other articles.
