• To stammer in talking, because of a stoppage in the throat, caused by fear, rage or grief.

i kâi âu-lêng-kng ngĕ, kṳ̂h-kṳ̂h-kìe, tàⁿ ūe tàⁿ m̄ chut;

his tonsils were stiffened, so that (having a lump in his throat,) he could only sob out some words, and could not talk connectedly.
