An Ordinance to repeal and replace the Education Ordinance.

Enacted by the Governor of Hong Kong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof.

PART I.
Preliminary.

Short title and commencement. 1. (1) This Ordinance may be cited as the Education Ordinance 1971.

(2) This Ordinance shall come into operation on a day to be appointed by the Governor by notice in the Gazette, and notices under this subsection may appoint different dates for different provisions of this Ordinance.

Application. 2. This Ordinance shall not apply to—

(a) the University of Hong Kong established by the (Cap. 1053.)University of Hong Kong Ordinance;
(b) The Chinese University of Hong Kong established by (Cap. 1109.)The Chinese University of Hong Kong Ordinance;
(c) the Hong Kong Polytechnic established by the (40 of 1971.)Hong Kong Polytechnic Ordinance 1971; or
(d) any post secondary college registered under the (Cap. 320.)Post Secondary Colleges Ordinance.

Interpretation. 3. In this Ordinance, unless the context otherwise requires—

“approved manager” means a person who is approved under sub- section (1) of section 24 to be a manager;

“authorized architect” means a person whose name is on the register of authorized architects kept under section 3 of the Buildings Ordinance;

“Building Authority” has the same meaning as it has in section 2 of the (Cap. 123.)Buildings Ordinance;
