Come, people, let’s find my father. Oh, I must go and look for him!

Raytze Yente
Don’t let her go out of the house.

Chatcha Shimcha (to Shprinize Tzirel)
Shmereh went to Klavne’s, I tell you. Let’s sit down at the table. Wife, hand around refreshments. Folks, to the table!

(Shmereh returns. The confusion and noise grow apace.)

Klavne
Shmereh, where have you been?

Shmereh (counting those present)
Not one, not two, not three…

Klavne
Everybody’s here. What are you counting for?

Shprintze Tzirel
Here I am, papa.

Shmereh (throwing his hat in the air)
