Causidico, whom fear of Want made Bold,
Barters his boasted Honesty for Gold.
Tacks and Impeachments once he urg'd as Law,
To curb the Throne, the Ministry to awe:
Witness Sigillo and the Irish Grants;
But cease we now, he cries, those old Complaints.
Let us restrain our too impetuous Zeal,
Nor ever tack a persecuting Bill.
Let us henceforth offending Statesmen screen;
Let Justice sleep in Anna's gentle Reign.
So is the Patriot chang'd from what he was;
So solid a Conviction is a Place.
