Virginia. This dignity was void till the Restoration. John Riland, appointed 6th Dec. 1661. He died 3rd

March 1672-3, setat. 53-. George Downing, collated 10th March 1672-328. He

died in 1 684. Lancelot Addison, collated 8th Dec. 1684. He was

also dean of Lichfield, and died 20th April 1703. Richard Davis, collated 26th July 1703-9. He died

in 1708. William Wilson, collated 9th Aug. 1708-^'^. He died

at Nottingham nth May 1741, aged 94. Thomas Smalbrokk, collated 9th June 1741-^'. Ob.

2nd July 1778. Normand Fotheringham, collated 22nd July 1778 ^2.

Ob. 4th April 1793. William Vyse, collated i6th May 1793^3. Ob. 23rd

Feb. 1816, setat. 75. Charles Buckeridge, 14th March i8i6'^^. Ob. 28th

This archdeaconry was transferred to the diocese of Worcester in 1836.

Robert held this dignity between 1135 and 1145.

William held it about 11 46 '3^.

Helias held it about 1149 and 1159.

Ralph de Thamewood had the office in 117537.

Alan enjoyed it between 11 75 and 1182-^^.

Henry Marshall, afterwards bishop of Exeter, is

said to have held it in 1 191 ; but there is considerable

doubt whether he ever filled the office.
