Henry IV. pronounced him an intruder and usurper of the archbishopric[1], and restored

Thomas Arundel 21st Oct. 1399[2]. He died, according to the Canterbury registers, 19th Feb. 1414, and was buried the next day in his own cathedral. The license to elect an archbishop on the death of Thomas Arundel is dated 27th Feb. 1414[3]. The custody of the temporalities was granted to John Wotton 27th Feb.[4]

Henry Chicheley, bishop of St.David's, was demanded to this see 4th March 1414; the Pope nevertheless issued his bull of provision dated v Cal. Maii (27 th April) 1414[5]. The royal assent to his election was given 23rd March[6], the temporalities were delivered to him 30th May 1414[7], and he received his pall 24th July following. He died 12th April 1443[8], and was buried in his own cathedral. The license to elect vice Henry Chicheley is dated the 27 th April 1443[9].

John Stafford, bishop of Bath and Wells, was translated to this see by papal bull, dated 13th May 1443[10]. The royal assent was given to his translation 24th May[11], and he had the temporalities restored to him 25th June[12]; he was consecrated 23rd Aug., and enthroned 22nd Sept. following. He was appointed chancellor of England 1432[13]; and died 25th May 1452, and was buried in his own cathedral[14]. The congé
