prebend into his hands about 1458, and annexed it to the chancellorship 4th Dec. that same year, quitting that of Sutton in Marisco for it, which the chancellors had previously held in commendam. Since Tapton's time it has been accounted an appendage to the chan- cellorship, and those dignitaries have enjoyed the stall to the present time : for, though

Geoiigk Eland was collated to it 17th Jan. 16056, and

John Cope got possession of it by installation 23rd Aug. 1660, and the latter upon the King's presenta- tion ; yet they were forced to quit their claims' on account of the chancellors having enjoyed such unin- terrupted possession of it.

STOW IN LINDSEY.

John Broakdi died possessed of this stall in 1326.

Walter de Staurex, installed in 1326. He occurs possessed of it in 1343 and 1347, being also treasurer.

Robert de Walkington, exchanged it in 1363 with

William de Mirfeild, for some other preferment, vii Cal. Dec. (25th Nov.) 1363.

Thomas Chaxdos died holding this prebend in 1406.

Robert Gilbert, afterwards bishop of London, suc- ceeded in 1406.

Simon Marchford, collated in 141 1, vice Gilbert re- signed. He resigned this stall several years before his death, which happened 4th Feb. 14412.

Richard Petworth succeeded 5th March 1414-15, vice Marchford resigned. He exchanged it in 1424, for the prebend of Milton Manor, with

John Stafford, who was soon after made bishop of Bath and Wells.

Nicholas Dixon quitted it in 1427 for another prebend.

John Derby succeeded in 1427.

John Tyrington, collated in 1438.

John Sutton, LL.B., collated 18th Jan. 1446-7.

William Town, D.D., collated 9th July 1460, vice Sutton deceased.
