1497 Richard Fits-James, warden of Merton college, Ox- 12II.VII. ford, obtained 17th May 1497 the same permission of receiving consecration out of the church of Can- terbury ". He was translated to Chichester in 1504 s8 .

1504 Jonx Fishi.h, S.T. P., mathr of Queens' college, Oam- ioii.vn. bridge, was promoted to this see by bull, dated 14th Oct. 1504. He obtained a license 22nd Nov. 1504 to be consecrated elsewhere than at Canterbury , and was consecrated 25th Nov. Ho was deprived of his bishopric for refusing to acknowledge the King's su- premacy in Jan. 1534 5j but was created a cardinal 21st May following, lie was beheaded 22nd June in that year, and buried in the churchyard of All-IIal- lows, Harking.

1535 John Hilskt, S.T. P. , prior of the Dominicans or Black 17 H. VIII. Friars, having been elected and confirmed, was conse- crated 1 8th Sept. 1535 61 , and the temporalities were restored to him 4th Oct. 1535 ,: . He died in 1538. A royal license to elect a bishop in the room of John Hilsey issued 26th March 1540 63 ; in pursuance of which,

1540 Nicholas Heath, S.T. P., archdeacon of Stafford, was 31II.VIII. elected 26th March 1540, and obtained the royal as- sent on the 31st of the same month 64 . He was con- firmed 3rd April, and the next day consecrated at St. Paul's cathedral. London 6 '; on the 14th of that month the temporalities were restored to him 66 .
