BISHOPS. 293 ahhot of St. Mary^s^ Yorh'^., was translated to Durham and had restitution of the temporalities 15th Oct. 15023. He died in 1505, and was buried in the abbey of St. Mary's, York*. The see was 'cacant nearly two years after the death of bishop Sever. 1507 Christopher Baynbridge^ had the temporalities of 73 Hen.vil. this see restored to him 17th Nov. 1507^, and he was promoted to the archiepiscopal see of York by papal bull of provision dated 20th Sept. 1508. 1509 Thomas Rut hall", dean of Salisbury, was appointed iHen.viIl. bishop of Durham by papal bull dated 12th June 1509 ^_, and he made his profession of obedience to the archbishop of York on the 24th of the same month ^ ; the temporalities were restored to him 3rd July fol- lowing ^o. He was appointed keeper of the privy seal T8th May 151 611. He died 4th Feb. 1522—3, and was buried inWestminster Abbey, in the chapel of St. John the Baptist^-. 1523 Thomas Wolsey, cardinal archbishop of York and com- 15 Hen.vill. mendatory bishop of Bath and JVells, resigning the latter see, had Durham conferred upon him by papal bull ; the temporalities of which he had enjoyed since 30th April 1523 '•^. He gave up Durham for Winchester in 1529. 1530 Clthbert Tuxstall, bishop of London, was translated iiHen.viii from that see to Durham by papal bull of 21st Feb. 1529-30.
