BISHOPS. 61 T435 Thomas Bourchier^^ dean of St. MartiiCs the Great, 13 Hen. VI. London, and cJiancellor of the university of Oxford, was elected bishop of Worcester 9th Dec. 1433 ; not- withstanding which the Pope appointed him to the see by bull dated vii Id. Mart. (9th March) 1 433-4 s'^. He had the temporalities restored to him 15th April 1435^3^ and made his profession of obedience on the 20th of the same month ^^, and was consecrated 15th May following ^^. In 1443, ^y ^^^^ dated 20th Dec. he was translated to Ely^^. 1444 John Carpenter, S.T.P., provost of Oriel and chan- 22Hen.vl. cellor of the university of Oxford, became bishop of Worcester by papal bull dated 20th Dec. 1443 ; ^^ received the temporalities 27th Feb. following^", and made his profession to the archbishop the next day. He was consecrated at Eton 22nd March 1443-4. He resigned his bishopric shortly before his death, which happened at North wick in 1476. He was buried at Westbury, near Bristol. 1476 John Alcock, bishop of Rochester, was translated to i6Edw.lv. this see, the temporalities whereof were restored to him 25th Sept. 1476^^; and in i486 he was trans- lated to Ely«9. 1487 Robert Morton, LL.D., archdeacon of Winchester, I Hen. VII. York, and Gloucester"^^ , succeeded by papal bull dated J 6th Oct. (xvii Cal. Nov.) i486, was confirmed 8th Jan. 1486-7, consecrated shortly after the 24th of that month '^^, and the temporalities were restored to him loth Feb. following '^^.
