Went into camp at 4:30 p.m., on the St. Vrain St. Vrain Creek in a place partially sheltered from the wind by timber. Has been a cold, windy, disagreeable day. Has snowed on the range in the neighborhood of Arapahoe Peak Arapahoe Peak for two or three days. Saw Pike’s Peak Pike’s Peak and it was white with fresh snow. Saw redwinged blackbirds redwinged blackbird, saw numerous young; robins Turdus migratorius very common, lark buntings Calamospiza melanocorys abundant, young out; lark sparrows Chondestes grammacus, killdeer Charadrius vociferus 12 or 15, mourning doves Zenaida macroura common, cliff swallows Petrochelidon pyrrhonota common, yellow warbler Dendroica aestiva, magpies magpie a few, meadowlarks meadowlark abundant, vesper sparrows Pooecetes gramineus, wren sp. wren, kingfisher kingfisher at St. Vrain St. Vrain Creek, barn swallows Hirundo rustica common, kingbird kingbird 1.
