Reached lunch grounds in Alamo Canyon Alamo Canyon at 11:30. Santiago says he saw a bear track. Camp bird (Clarke crow Nucifraga columbiana) about camp, where I thought I saw one yesterday. Found 2 owl owl skeletons and one jay or Clarke crow Nucifraga columbiana skeleton hanging on a wire. I took them. Reached camp in the Rito de las Frijoles Rito de las Frijoles at 3:45 and put up squirrel squirrel skin and solitaire Myadestes townsendi skeleton. Very tired from long walk, hard climbing and especially the excessive heat of the afternoon, Retired very early.

Cool and cloudy most of forenoon. Identified a female spurred towhee Pipilo and a Woodhouse jay Aphelocoma californica. Habits indicate that all the crestless jays here are Woodhouse instead of pinons.

Afternoon very hot and bright. Got two fine lizards from the excavation but one got away.
