Started horseback from Darnell's stable at 7:10 a.m., pack on back containing 2 single blankets, camera, field glasses, compass and tape. Bright, hot morning. Reached Sunshine at 9:25 and Ward at 12:10 Sprinkled about 11:45, cooler. Dinner 35¢, horse feed 75¢, rope 20¢. Left Ward horseback at 1:15 p.m. Took the road running north to ridge north of town, crossed the R.R. track S of Newmarket Mill and mine and took road running west.
