There is very great gold excitement here at the present time the people seem to have gone cray on the subject. Living is exceedingly expensive and prices are soaring!

My outfit is still in the custom home and I find I will not be able to get it clear before early next week. There is an endless amount of "red tape" in the administration of all official business. I have a letter to the government of Cayenne, from the French Ambassador at Washington and expect an audience on Monday. After that I hope to be able to move about less restrictions.

As we can receive foreign mail only once a month - due the 29th or 30th of each month and as I fear I am going to run short of funds owing to the extreme high prices I will ask you please to advance me at once $500. Please send by exchange either on New York or Paris. I will make my first shipment by the next steamer about Nov 1st.

I shall certainly make some notes on habits etc. and will also collect some nests and eggs.

I am in the best of health. Thanking you for your good wishes.

I am sincerely. Geo K. Cherrie

I have lost my pen!
