19. Manega þāra Iudea cōmon tō Martham and tō Marian þæt hig woldon hī frēfrian for hyra brōðor þingon.[1]

20. Đā Martha gehȳrde þæt sē Hǣlend cōm, þā arn hēo ongēan hyne; and Maria sæt æt hām.[2]

21. Đā cwæð Martha to þām Hǣlende, Drihten, gif þū wǣre hēr, nǣre mīn brōðor dēad.[3]

22. And ēac ic wāt nū þā þæt God þē sylð swā hwæt swā ðū hyne bitst.[4]

23. Đā cwæð sē Hǣlend tō hyre, Þīn brōðor ārīst.[5]

24. And Martha cwæþ tō him, Ic wāt þæt hē ārīst on þām ȳtemestan dæge.[6]

25. And sē Hǣlend cwæð tō hyre, Ic eom ǣryst, and līf; sē ðe gelȳfð on mē, þēah hē dead sȳ, hē leofað;[7]

26. and ne swylt nān þāra þe leofað and gelȳfð on mē. Gelȳfst þū þyses?[8]

27. Hēo cwæð tō him, Witodlīce Drihten, ic gelȳfe þæt þū eart Crīst, Godes Sunu, þe on middaneard cōme.[9]

28. And þā hēo ðās þing sǣde, hēo ēode and clypode diglīce Marian hyre swustor, þus cweþende, Hēr is ūre Lārēow, and clypað þē.[10]
