[I, 24-

24. And þā þe þær āsende wǣron, þā wǣron of sundorhālgon.[1]

25. And hig āxsodon hine and cwǣdon tō him, Hwī fullast þū, gif þū ne eart [Crīst], nē Elias, nē wītega?[2]

26. Iohannes him andswarode, Ic fullige on wætere; tōmiddes ēow stōd þe gē ne cunnon.[3]

27. Hē is þe æfter mē tōweard is, sē wæs geworden beforan mē; ne eom ic wyrðe þæt ic unbinde his scēoþwang.[4]

28. Đās ðing wǣron gewordene on Bethania begeondan Iordanen þǣr Iohannes fullode.[5]

Đys [godspel] gebyrað on þone .vii. dæg Godes ætȳwednysse.

29. Ōþre dæg Iohannes geseah þone Hǣlend tō him cumende, and cwæð, Hēr is Godes lamb; hēr is sē þe dēð aweg middaneardes synne.[6]

30. Þēs is be þām ic sēde, Æfter mē cymð wer þe mē beforan geworden wæs, for ðām þe hē wæs ǣr ðonne ic.[7]

31. And ic hyne nyste; ac ic cōm and fullode on wætere tō ðǣm þæt hē wǣre geswutelud on Israhela folce.[8]
