him wunodon on ðām dæge; hit was þā sēo tēoðe tīd.[1]

40. Andreas, Simones brōþur Petres, was ōþer of þām twām, þā gehȳrdon æt Iohanne, and him fyligdon.[2]

41. Ðēs gemētte ǣrost Simonem his brōðor, and cwæð tō him, Wē gemētton Messīam, þæt is gereht Crīst.[3]

42. And hig lǣddon hine tō þām Hǣlende. Đā behēold sē Hǣlend hyne, and cwæþ, Þū eart Simon Ionan sunu; þu bist genemned Cephas, þæt is gereht, Petrus.[4]

43. On mergen hē wolde faran on Galilea, and hē gemētte Philippus; and sē Hǣlend cwæð tō him, Fylig mē.[5]

44. Sōþlīce Philippus was fram Bethzaida, Andreas ceastre and Petres.[6]

45. Philippus gemētte Nathanael, and cwæþ tō him, Wē gemētton ðone Hǣlend, Iosepes sunu of Nazareth, þone wrāt Moyses and þā witegan on ðǣre ǣ.[7]

46. And Nathanahel cwæð tō him, Mæg ǣnig þing gōdes bēon of Nazareth? Philippus cwæð to him, Cum and geseoh.
