18. Đā andswaredon him þā Iudeas and cwǣdon, Hwylc tācn ætȳwst þū ūs, for ðām þe þū ðās ðing dēst?[1]

19. Sē Hǣlend him andswarude and cwæð, Tōwurpað þis tempel, and ic hit ārǣre binnan þrīm dagon.[2]

20. Đā Iudeas cwǣdon tō him, Þis tempel wæs getimbrod on six and fēowertigon wintron, and ārǣrst þū hit on þrȳm dagon?[3]

21. Sōðlīce hē hyt cwæð be hys līchaman temple.

22. Đā hē of dēaðe ārās, þā gemundon his leorningcnihtas þæt hē hit be him sylfum cwæð; and hī gelȳfdon hālegum gewrite and þǣre sprǣce þe sē Hǣlend spræc.[4]

23. Đā hē wæs on Ierusalem on ēastron ōn frēolsdæge, manega gelȳfdon on his naman, þā hī gesāwon ðā tācna þe hē worhte.[5]

24. Sē Hǣlend ne geswutelode hine sylfne him, for ðām hē cūðe hī ealle,[6]

25. and for þām him næs nān þearf þæt ǣnig man sǣde gewitnesse be men; hē wiste witodlīce hwat wæs on men.
