41. Sume cwǣdon, Hē is Crīst. Sume cwǣdon, Cweðe gē cymþ Crīst fram Galilea?

42. Hū ne cwyð þæt gewrit þæt Crīst cymð of Dauides cynne, and of Bethleem ceastre, þār þār Dauid wæs?[1]

43. Witodlīce ungeþwǣrnes wæs geworden on þǣre menigeo for him.[2]

44. Sume hig woldon hine niman; ac hyra nān his ne æthrān.[3]

45. Þā þēnas comon tō þām bisceopum and tō þām Phariseon; and hig cwǣdon to him, For hwī ne brōhton gē hine hider?[4]

46. Þā andwyrdon þā þēnas and cwǣdon, Ne spræc nǣfre nān man swā þēs man sprycþ.[5]

47. Þā cwǣdon þā Pharisei tō him, Synt gē beswicene?[6]

48. Cweðe gē gelȳfde ǣnig þǣra ealdra oððe þǣra Pharisea on hyne?[7]

49. Ac þēos menigeo þe ne cūðe þā ǣ, hig synt āwyrgede.[8]

50. Ða cwæð Nichodemus tō him, - sē þe cōm tō him on nyht sē wæs hyra ān, -[9]
