7. Þā hig þurhwunedon hine āxsiende, þā ārās hē ūpp, and cwæð tō him, Lōca, hwylc ēower sī synlēas, wurpe ǣrest stān on hī.[1]

8. And hē ābēah eft, and wrāt on þǣre eorþan.[2]

9. Ðā hig þis gehȳrdon, þā ēodon hig ūt, ān æfter ānum; and hē gebād þār sylf, and þæt wīf stōd þǣr on middan.[3]

10. Sē Hǣlend ārās upp, and cwæð tō hyre, Wīf, hwǣr synd þā ðe þē wrēgdon? ne fordēmde þē nān man?[4]

11. And hēo cwæð, Nā, Drihten. And sē Hǣlend cwæð, Nē ic þē ne fordēme; dō gā, and ne synga þū nǣfre mā.[5]

Ðys godspel sceal on þǣre mydfæstenes wucan on sæternesdæg.

12. Eft sē Hǣlend spræc þās þing tō him and cwæð, Ic eom middaneardes lēoht; sē þe mē fyliþ ne gǣð hē ōn þȳstro, ac hē hæfð līfes lēoht.[6]

13. Ða Pharisei cwǣdon tō him, Þū cȳþst gewitnesse be ðē sylfon; nis ðīn gewitnes sōð.[7]
