He is the author of Abraham, the Typical Life of Faith; History of the Preparation of the World for Christ; Heresy and Heresy; and The History and Use of Hymns and Hymn Tunes. Breed, William Pratt, clergyman, author, was born Aug. 33, 1816, in Greenbush, N.Y. In 1856-89 he was a, presbyterian clergyman of Philadelphia, Pa. He was the author of Jenny Geddes; Home Songs for Home Birds; Grapes from the Great Vine; and A Board and Abroad. He died Feb. 14, 1889,

miral of Philadelphia. He died Dec. 17, 1870, in Mt. Airey, Pa. Breese, Sidney, soldier, lawyer, jurist, United States senator, author, was born July 15, 1800, in Whitesborough, N.Y. In 1833-37 he was state attorney; and then was appointed United States district attorney for Illinois. In 1839 he published a volume of Decisions of the Supreme Court, which now bears his name, and was the first octavo volume published in the state. He served in the Black Hawk war as a lieutenant of volunteers; and in 1835 was elected a circuit judge. In 1843-49 he was United States senator from Illinois. In 1850 he became a member of the Illinois state legislature; and was elected speaker. He was one of the originators of the Illinois central railroad; and in 1855 was again placed on the circuit court bench, and made chief judge. He published a work on Illinois in 1869. He died June 37, 1878, in Pinckneyville, 111. Breidenbaugh, Edward Swoyer, educator, chemist, author, was born Jan. 13, 1849, in Newville, Pa. He is a professor of chemistry in Pennsylvania college; and in 188084 was mineralogist of the Pennsylvania state board of agriculture. Breen, Aloysius Andrew, educator, clergyman, college president, was born Sept. 1, 1867, in Chicago, 111. In 1903 he was ordained a priest; and since 1907 has been president of St. Mary's college of Kansas.

Breen, Patrick, pioneer, was born in IreHe was with the Conner party who during the winter of 1846-7 were snowed in in the Sierras. He next served on the San Jacinto, which captured one thousand and five hundred slaves on the coast of Africa;

In 1883-85 he was a representative from Michigan to the forty-eighth congress as a republican. He died March 3, 1887, in Negaunee. Mich. Brelsford, Charles Henry, educator, author, was born May 11, 1853, in Bucks county. Pa. Since 1884 he has been supervisor of the public schools of Philadelphia, Pa. He is the author of Columbia Series of Graded Spelling Books. Brelsford, Homer P., lawyer, legislator, jurist, was born Sept. 1, 1869, in Onarga, 111. He received a thorough education; and graduated from Notre Dame university of Indiana. He is a successful lawyer of Eastland, Texas; and hag served as special associate justice of the court of appeals for the second district of Texas. He served two terms as a representative in the Texas state legislature; and has been a member of the state democratic executive committee of Texas.
