of the city common council. In 1890 he organized the Cedartown land improvement company of Georgia. In 1896 he organized the Cedartown cotton company to make fine hosiery yarns; in 1898 organized the Southern extension cotton mill company; and in 1899 organized the Paragon mills; and in each of these corporations he was either president or manager. In 1899 he consolidated these three companies, aggregating twenty-five thousand spindles, becoming vicepresident of the corporation. In 1896 and 1904 he was a delegate from Georgia to the republican national conventions. In 1907 he was president of the Southern association of hosiery yarn spinners.

Adamson, William Charles, lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born Aug. 13, 1854, in Bowdon, Ga. In 1874 he graduated with the degree of A.B. from

Bowdon college of Georgia; and subsequently he received the degree of A.M. from that institution of learning. Since 1876 he has practiced law in Carrollton, Ga.; in 1885-89 was judge of the city court; and for several years was city attorney. In 1893 he was a, presidential elector; and in 1901 was a delegate to the ecumenical council of methodism held in London, England. In 1897-1911 he was a representative from Georgia to the fifty-fifth, fifty-sixth, fifty-seventh, fiftyeighth, fifty-ninth, sixtieth and sixty-first congresses as a, democrat. Addams, Jane, lecturer, reformer, author, was born Sept. 6, 1860, in Cedarville, 111. She is a well known writer and lecturer on social settlement work, and on social and political reforms. She is head resident of Hull house of Chicago, 111. She is the author of Democracy and Social Ethics; The Function of the Social Settlement; and Philanthropy and Social Progress. In 1832-34 he was a representative in the Pennsylvania state legislature. In 1825-39 he was a representative from Pennsylvania to the nineteenth and twentieth congresses. In 1893 he bought a. majority interest in the Brooklyn gas company, becoming its president; and is now largely interested in other gas companies in Brooklyn, N.Y. Addison, Walter Dulany, clergyman, founwas born June 1, 1769, in Annapolis, Md. In 1793-1800 he held services in various denominations and in the Presbyterian church in Washington, D.C. His work there resulted in the foundation of St. John's church, which was erected in 1804. 1801-09 he was rector of Broad Creek parish; in 1809-36 was rector of St. John's parish; and in 1826-48 was rector of Rock Creek parish.
