Ao.; and was a member of the board of education for over two years. He served in 1903-05 as a member of the fifty-seventh gresses

nomination for a third term. He practices his profession in St. Louis. Butler, John, soldier. law school of Bloomington. 111. For many "'ears he was a school teacher. In 1875-79 he was clerk of Steuben circuit court; and is a successful lawyer of Orland, Ind. In 1891-95 he was state prosecuting attorney for Steuben and DeKalb counties. Butler, Josiah, lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born in 1780 in Rockingham county, N. H. He was repeatedly elected to the New Hampshire state legislature. In 1817-23 he

was a representative from to the fifteenth, sixteenth

New Hampshire and seventeenth

congresses. He was then appointed judge of the superior court of New Hampshire, which position he held until the office was abolished. He died Oct. 9, 1854, in Deerfield, N.H. Butler, Julius Wales, merchant, manufacturer, was born May 7, 1828, in Essex, Vt. He was educated in the public schools of

For about thirty years he has been professor of homiletics and church history in the Howard university. Butler, Lucius Marshall, master mechanic, engineer, master car builder, was born April 9, 1838, in Hinsdale, N.H. He was educated in the public schools of New England; and graduated from the academy of Chesterfield, N.H. In 1859 he entered railroad service as machinist; in 1872-81 was foreman of a roundhouse and engineer; in 1881-83 was in charge of engines of a large railroad; and in 1883-86 was master machinist and chief engineer of the Richmond paper company.
