He was architect of the Buffalo general hospital and university of Buffalo; and of the dental college, the Gratwick research laboratory, the New York state building and the administration building of New York City. Cary, George B., congressman, was born in 1811 near Petersburg, Va. In 1841-43 he was ii representative from Virginia to the twenty-seventh congress. He died March 5, 1850, in Bethlehem, Va. Cary, Joseph Clinton, manufacturer, invenwas born Oct. 13, 1828, in Alexander, N.y. He built two steam fire-engines about 1860, to which his father's pump was applied, for use in New York City. He was the originator of the cross-town railroad running from Christopher street ferry to the East river at Twenty-third street. He died Aug. 7, 1884, in Martha's Vineyard, Mass. Cary, Joseph M., lawyer, jurist. He was a judge of one of the United States territorial courts prior to 1884. Cary, Richard Miles, merchant, banker, was born May 19, 1861, in Isle of Wight county, Va. He received a thorough education under the guidance of his father, Professor R. M. Cary. He is a successful business man of Pensacola, Fla.; president of Cary and company, coal merchants; vice-president of the People's- bank of Pensacola; and secretary of the Pensacola home and savings association. He has been cashier and paymaster of the Pensacola and Alabama and Tennessee railroad company; and auditor and secretary of the corporation. He is colonel and inspector-general on the staff of the Florida national guard. Cary, Samuel Fenton, lawyer, congressman, was born Feb. 18, 1814, in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1867-69 he was a. representative from Ohio to the fortieth congress; and was the only member of his party who voted against the impeachment of President Andrew Johnson. He died in 1900 in Cincinnati, tor,

Cary, Trumbull, soldier, legislator, banker, was born Aug. 11, 1787, in Mansfield, Conn. For thirty years he was engaged in mercantile work in Batavia; N. Y. He was adjutant in the war of 1813; was elected to the New York state assembly; served as state senator; and was the founder of the Bank of Genesee. He died June 20, 1869, in Genesee, N.Y. Cary, William Joseph, telegrapher, congressman, was born March 23, 1865, in Milwaukee, Wis. Since 1879 he has been a telegrapher. In 1907-11 he was a representative from Wisconsin to the sixtieth and sixty-first congress as a republican. Case, Augustus Ludlow, naval officer, was born Feb. 3, 1813, in Newburg, N.Y. He was made commodore in 1867; and was promoted to rear-admiral in 1872. In 1874 he commanded the combined European, North Atlantic and South Atlantic fleets assembled at Key West at the time the Virginius difficulties with Spain. In 1875 he was placed on the retired list. He died Feb. 17, 1893, in
