He received his education in the common and high school of Daingerfield and Jefferson, Texas. He has attained success as a merchant of Italy, Texas; and is president of the First national bank of that city. Clark, Jeremiah, farmer, legislator, was born in 1730, in Bedford, N.Y. He was a member of the first, second and fourth provincial congresses of

county; and was a member of the New York state assembly for ten years. He died May 30, 1808, in Cornwall, N.Y. Clark, John, educator, clergyman, was bom Nov. 29, 1758, in Scotland. After various adventures he taught a backwoods school in South Carolina; and then in Georgia, where he was also appointed a class-leader among the methbdists; became an itinerant methodist preacher in Georgia. He died Oct. 11, 1833, in St. Louis,

Clark, John, soldier, governor, was bom in 1766 in North Carolina. He served in the revolutionary war; and rose to the rank of major-general in the war of 1812. He was the thirteenth governor of Georgia in 181923. He died Oct. 15, 1832, in Georgia. Clark, John Alonzo, clergyman, author, was bom May 6, 1801, in Pittsfield, Mass. In 1835-43 he was rector of St. Andrew's church in Philadelphia until his death. He was the author of The Young Disciple; The Pastor's Testimony; A Walk about Zion; Gathered Fragments; Awake, Thou Sleeper; and Glimpses of the Old World. He died Nov. 27, 18^3, in Philadelphia, Pa. He attended the university of Michigan; and has attained successs as a noted physician and surgeon of Detroit, Mich. He has been professor of chemistry and physics in the Detroit college of medicine; professor toxicology and chemistry in the Detroit pharmacy; and dean of the same institution. He has been president of the Detroit science association; president of the Detroit board of education; president United States pension examining board; and is surgeon-general of the Michigan national guard. In 18731901 was professor of mathematics in Sheffield scientific school of Yale university; and since 1901 has ben professor emeritus. Clark, John Howe, surgeon, naval officer, was born April 16, 1837, in Greenland, N. H. In 1861 he entered the United States navy as assistant surgeon; in 1867 was promoted surgeon; in 1885 was promoted medical inspector; and in 1899 retired with the rank of rear-admiral.
