A t the meeting in January* 1912* action w as taken towards changing the name back to Bloomsburg H ospital," m order to remove the impression of the public that it was a private hospital conducted for personal gain, and by action of the court o f that year the institution is now named the Bloomsburg Hospital. There are four public w*ards, with accommo dations for sixteen patients* and also sixteen private rooms. In an emergency this capacity may be considerably increased. A number o f trained nurses are graduated each year from the institution. T he hospital has already in its brief career earned an enviable reputation fo r the success ful treatment o f critical surgical cases, due largely to the ability of the physicians and the careful nursing of the Sisters. W hile many gave valuable assistance in the establishment o f (he hospital, the successful outcome of the project is due more to the untiring efforts o f A . Z. Schoch and J . C . Brown than to any other two persons..

Schoch was electra president of the corpora tio n; J . G . Harman* secretary; Joseph Ratti* tre a su re r; F . G . Yorks* assistant treasurer. T h e residence o f W. L. Ritter on East F ifth street w as purchased by M r. Ratti* and exten s iv e repairs and improvements made to adapt it fo r nospital p u l s e s . Friends of the en terprise were sohcltcd, and contributed 86*190, M r. Ratti supplying the balance, about $9,000, to meet the expense incurred. The equipment included a complete set of the most modem surgical instruments* and an operating room f i t t ^ with all (he sanitary appliances known to the surgical profession. In A pril, 1905, action was taken to change the name to the Joseph Ratti Hospital* which w as done at the M ay term o f court. A t the meeting in ja n u a ^ * 1910* action was taken looking to the erection o f a new build ing. T he Legislature o f 1909 had appropriated $5,000 towards the project. Flans for the new building prepared by McCormick & French of W ilkes-Barre were adopted in 1 9 1 1, and the contract w as awarded to the Shamokin Lum ber Company. T he I.egislaturc o f ( 9 11 ap propriated an additional $3,000 for the build ing. A canvass o f (he community for sub scriptions was made, which with several lega cies enabled the corporation to complete the BLOOMSBURO FU B U C LIBRARY building ready fo r occupancy in Ju ly, 19 12 .
