Oct. 20. 1898, fo r the purpose o f establishing system atic readings and discussions. A Cur* rent E ven ts Club w as the result, the follow ing officers being elected: M rs. S . P . H anly, president; M rs. H . F . Glenn, vice president: M rs. S . C . Ja y n e, secretary, and M rs. V. H . Woo<lin, treasurer, l-ooking o v e r the outline o f w ork, the first three years' study; consisted o f discussions o f inventions, politics, music, art. stage, c<lucalional interests and religious interests. Certain periods w ere also spent in reading portions from standard w orks o f literature, principally those o f Shakcs{>care, Dickens and I.ongfcllow . D uring the third ye ar program s were arranged and prim ed, a plan which has been follow ed each succeeding year. The name w as adopted for the reason that Moses V an Campcn w as a resident fo r many years of the section immediately west o f Berwick and his achievem ents were part of the history o f this section of the State. N’aii Camf>en w as boni Ja n . 2 1, 17 5 7, and died Oct. 15. 1849. Som e account o f his life and acts will be found in the earlier chapters o f this work. T h is branch of the D. .A. R . meets the first F rid a y o f c.ich month, from October to May. at Berw ick, and at these m eetings addresses arc made and papers read on m atters pertain­ ing to the history o f .-Xmcrica, the I'nitcd States and the section of the State now in­ cluded in the counties o f Colum bia, Montour and Luzerne.
