On June 2 I, I 8 7 I , a large bridge, which cost £ii,ii7 7s. id., was opened to traffic at this point, and ended an old- standing dispute. In 1877 the new City Bridge — which was really an enlargement (in width) of the old bridge— was opened to the public with much ceremony. Improvements were effected to the Frome and other bridges.
