A preliminary meeting was held on the 30th January, in the Town Hall, Mr. R, H. Greg, in the chair. The meeting was addressed by the chairman, Mr. J. Bright, Mr. P. H. Taylor, of London, and the Rev. J. W. Massie, and committees were appointed—one to consider the effects of the Corn Law on agriculture, one to consider their effects on commerce and manufactures, and another to consider their effects on the physical, moral, and political condition of the people.
