BIOGRAPHICAL

McMahon is a Democrat, and when he entered public office it was in the capacity, for which his training gave him ample qualifications, of assistant district attorney. He has a large practice, and has won a reputation that is based upon proved ability and professional training equal to the heavy demands that have been made upon it. Mr. McMahon fraternizes with Jersey City Lodge, No. 211, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks; and the Knights of Columbus, of which he has severed as district deputy. His clubs are the Elks' and Columbian. He is known as a public-spirited citizen interested in everything bearing upon the common good, and a ready supporter of progressive movements. He is a communicant of St. Aloysius' Roman Catholic Church.

Mr. McMahon married, at Abington, Massachusetts, September 18, 1912, Anna C. Fitzgerald, daughter of Patrick and Elizabeth (Hodnutt) Fitzgerald, and they are the parents of the following children: Robert Emmet, born December 30, 1913; Betty, born September 27, 1916; Natalie Cecile, born April 2, 1919; and Muriel, born December 16, 1920.


MUMMERT, Calvin J.,

Heating Contractor.

A name which is coming to bear increasing significance to the growth and development of Hudson county, New Jersey, is that of Calvin J. Mummert, whose headquarters are located at No. 668 Tyler place, West New York, New Jersey. It is in the field of heating contractor that Mr. Mummert's activities are centering, and his excellent training and practical ability have placed him among the leaders in this line of endeavor, although he is still one of the younger men of this county. A native of the State of Pennsylvania, he is a son of Howard Mummert, who was born at McSherrystown, Pennsylvania, and has been active as a hotel proprietor throughout the greater part of his active career. The mother, Clara (Klunk) Mummert, was a native of the same Pennsylvania village and is also still living.

Calvin J. Mummert was born in Hanover, Pennsylvania, February 25, 1890. His education was acquired in the local public and high schools, and from his earliest business experience he has been identified with the world of construction. Specializing in the installation of heating plants, Mr. Mummert gained wide experience in his native State. With such equipment, Mr. Mummert came to Hudson county, New Jersey, locating in West New York. Here he has won a noteworthy position as a heating contractor and has done much for the welfare and comfort of the people through his activities in this field. Doing business under his own name, he has developed a very extensive interest and handles contracts of large importance. Alert to the progress of events in all lines of advance, Mr. Mummert takes a deep interest in public affairs, but gives unreserved support to no party in political matters, holding indepentent views. His religious affiliation is with the Catholic church.

Mr. Mummert married, at Hanover, Pennsylvania, in February, 1911, Rosa Billman, who was born in Hanover, in May, 1892, and is a daughter of John A. and ———— (Sheppard) Billman, both natives of Pennsylvania. The mother died in the year 1897. Mr. and Mrs. Mummert are the parents of one child: Clara, who was born in Hanover, September 5, 1912.
