In the foreground and to the left a river flows between low trees into the distance. In the centre and to the right is a wood. In the right foreground are two men, one of whom is seated. On a path on the opposite bank are a man and a woman. To the left is a rowing-boat with four persons in it. The reflections in the water are finely rendered. [Pendant to 2 1 1. In the centre foreground is a pool ; to the left an oak stands in the water. On a road to the right are four figures and a little dog. Farther back a traveller walks to the right. In the centre a large tree overhangs the water. Figures by Hobbema himself. Signed in full on the left at foot ; canvas, 28 inches by 36 inches. A willow is reflected in the water. Beyond is a distant view. In the middle distance a road passes a cottage ; on the road is a traveller. In the foreground, in shadow, are another cottage and two persons resting under a tree.
