No. (366) Three hundred and Sixty-six

KNOW all written by these Present that in the pursance of a Patent under Hand of George Washington, President, and the Great Seal of the United States of North America, bearing Date the thirty first Day of July, in the Year of our Lord, One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety, whereby was granted to Samuel Hopkins of the City of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania, for the Term of fourteen Years, the sole and exclusive right and liberty of using and vending to others a certain improvement, by him invented and discovered, in the making of Pot and Pearl Ash, by burning the raw Ashes in a Furnace, previous to their being dissolved and boiled in Water, according to the true Intent and Meaning of of the Act of Congress entitled "An Act to Promote the Progress of useful Arts."

The said Samuel Hopkins, by William Shotwell his Attoreny, lawfully constituted, for a valuable consideration to him paid or secured hath licensed and authorised, and authorise Of the Form of in the County of and State or Commonwealth of to erect, set use and establish on the Farm or Lot of Land at present in possession of and county of in the State or Commonwealth of one single Furnace or Oven, for the purposes of burning raw Ashes, in Order to procure therefrom Pot or Pearl Ash, upon the Principles invented and discovered by the said Samuel Hopkins, the same being defined and described in the said Patent, and in the Specification filed in the Office of the Secretary of State of the United States of North America, and to maintain, support and work the said Furnace or Oven, for the purpose aforesaid, for the Term of seven and a half years, from the first Day of the ninth Month September, in the Year of our Lord, One Thousand Seven
