In 1892, Germany produced 4,200,000 tons of pig-iron, and Britain 6,800,000 tons; in 1912, Germany produced 17,600,000 tons and Britain 9,000,000 tons. Germany had, therefore, an overwhelming superiority over England in this matter.80
