I ASK NO MORE

YOUR crowded life has then no place for me?
Your busy day for me no little hour:
I cannot tell my love with eloquence
As others use—I can but feel love's power.

The silence of the stars must speak for me;
The gray slow dawn when sleepless night has fled;
The quiet marshes where the sea comes in
A conqueror, though none have heard his tread.

Give me the lonely hours, the silences,
The quiet musings by the marshy shore,
One moment's thought when all the world's asleep,—
Give me but these and I'll not ask for more.
