SONG

A LOVE than love more pure,
Friendship than friendship dearer,
This feeling shall endure
Through life and draw us nearer.

A day without day's heat,
A night without night's terrors,
A friendship yet more sweet
Than love, without love's errors.

Whene'er my soul is wrung
With a delicious sorrow,
By songs of heroes sung,
From them new joy I borrow,

Since thou my hero art,
And thou canst me inspire
With courage e'en to part
From thee, if Fate require.

Though cut by Duty's knife,
Our love's chain joins unbroken:
Though kept apart by life,
We meet in prayers unspoken.

A love than love more pure,
Friendship than friendship dearer,
This feeling shall endure,
Till glad Death brings us nearer.
