Mr. Doty presented a petition from sundry citizens of Mackinac, praying for the repeal of the law which prohibits the use of pine barrels for fish. Referred to the committee on the judiciary.
Mr. Doty presented a petition from sundry citizens of Mackinac, praying for power to locate, and to cause to be worked, temporary roads on the ice. Referred to the committee on internal improvement.
Mr. Martin presented a petition from Daniel Whitney, praying for an act of incorporation to construct a canal across the river Wiskonsin. Referred to the committee on incorporations.
Mr. Doty presented a petition from John P. Arndt, of Green Bay, praying for a charter, vesting in himself and his associates, the exclusive privilege of navigating a steamboat, for the term of twelve years, from Navarino to the rapids of the Grand Kakalin on Fox river, and from the foot of Winnebago lake to the Portage Summit on Fox river. Referred to the committee on incorporations.
Mr. Britain presented a petition from James Smith, jr. and others, praying for an act of incorporation under the style and title of the Pawpaw Manufacturing Company. Referred to the committee on incorporations.
Mr. Satterlee laid on the table the following resolution:
Resolved, That the committee on territorial affairs be instructed to inquire into the expediency of changing the locations of the county seats of Eaton, Van Buren, Barry, Ionia, Clinton and Kent; that is, only of such of the said county seats as have not reimbursed the treasury of the territory the amount paid to commissioners for locating the same: to report by bill or otherwise.
On motion of Mr. Bacon, the remonstrance of township 2, range 12 east, against a separation from the township of Shelby, presented and laid on the table on Saturday last, was referred to the committee on territorial affairs.
