35 And they made their father drink wine that night alſo: and the younger aroſe, and lay with him; and he perceived not when ſhe lay down, nor when ſhe aroſe.

36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.

371897. And the firſtborn bare a ſon, and called his name Moab: [1] the ſame is the father of the Moabites unto this day.

38 And the younger, ſhe alſo bare a ſon, and called his name Ben-ammi: [2] the ſame is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.

CHAP. XX.

1 Abraham ſojourneth at Gerar, and denieth his wife; Abimelech taketh her, but is reproved of God in a dream, and commanded to reſtore her. 9 He rebuketh Abraham, who excuſeth himſelf. 14 Sarah is reſtored with preſents after a gentle reproof. 17 Abimelech and his houſe are healed at Abraham's prayer.

cir. 1898.And Abraham journeyed from [3] thence toward the ſouth country, and dwelled between [4] Kadeſh and Shur, and [5] ſojourned in Gerar.

2 And Abraham ſaid of Sarah his wife, [6] She is my ſiſter: and Abimelech king of Gerar ſent, and [7] took Sarah.

3 But [8] God came to Abimelech [9] in a dream by night, and ſaid to him, [10] Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou haſt taken; for ſhe is† Heb. married to an huſband. a man's wife.

4 But Abimelech had not come near her: and he ſaid, LORD, [11] wilt thou ſlay alſo a righteous nation?

5 Said he not unto me, She is my ſiſter? and ſhe, even ſhe herſelf ſaid, He is my brother: [12] in the ‖‖ Or, ſimplicity, or, ſincerity. integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this.

6 And God ſaid unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didſt this in the integrity of thy heart; for [13] I alſo withheld thee from ſinning [14] againſt me: therefore ſuffered I thee not to touch her.

7 Now therefore reſtore the man his wife; [15] for he is a prophet, and he ſhall pray for thee, and thou ſhalt live: and if thou reſtore her not, [16] know thou that thou ſhalt ſurely die, thou, [17] and all that are thine.

8 Therefore Abimelech roſe early in the morning, and called all his ſervants, and told all theſe things in their ears: and the men were ſore afraid.

9 ¶ Then Abimelech called Abraham, and ſaid unto him, What haſt thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, [18] that thou haſt brought on me and on my kingdom a great ſin? thou haſt done deeds unto me [19] that ought not to be done.

10 And Abimelech ſaid unto Abraham, What ſaweſt thou, that thou haſt done this thing?

11 And Abraham ſaid, Becauſe I thought, Surely [20] the fear of God is not in this place; and [21] they will ſlay me for my wife's ſake.

12 And yet indeed [22] ſhe is my ſiſter; ſhe is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and ſhe became my wife.

13 And it came to paſs, when [23] God cauſed me to wander from my father's houſe, that I ſaid unto her, This is thy kindneſs which thou ſhalt ſhew unto me; at every place whither we ſhall come, [24] ſay of me, He is my brother.

14 ¶ And Abimelech [25] took ſheep, and oxen, and menſervants, and womenſervants, and gave them unto Abraham, and reſtored him Sarah his wife.

15 And Abimelech ſaid, Behold, [26] my land is before thee: dwell †† Heb. as is good in thine eyes. where it pleaſeth thee.

16 And unto Sarah he ſaid, Behold, I have given [27] thy brother a thouſand pieces of ſilver: [28] behold, he is to thee [29] a covering of the eyes, unto all that are with thee, and with all other: thus ſhe was reproved.

17 ¶ So Abraham [30] prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidſervants; and they bare children.

18 For the LORD [31] had faſt cloſed up all the wombs of the houſe of Abimelech, becauſe of Sarah Abraham's wife.

CHAP. XXI.

1 Iſaac is born, and circumciſed. 6 Sarah's joy. 9 Hagar and Iſhmael are caſt forth at Sarah's inſtance, and by God's direction. 15 Hagar in diſtreſs is relieved and comforted by an angel. 22 Abimelech's covenant with Abraham, 33 who calleth upon the LORD in Beer-ſheba.

And the LORD [32] viſited Sarah as he had ſaid, and the LORD did unto Sarah [33] as he had ſpoken.

2 For Sarah [34] conceived, and bare Abraham a ſon in his old age, [35] at the ſet time of which God had ſpoken to him.

3 And Abraham called the name of his ſon that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, [36] Iſaac.

4 And Abraham [37] circumciſed his ſon Iſaac being eight days old, [38] as God had commanded him.

5cir. 1897. And [39] Abraham was an hundred years old, when his ſon Iſaac was born unto him.

6 ¶ And Sarah ſaid, [40] God hath made me to laugh, ſo that all that hear [41] will laugh with me.

7 And ſhe ſaid, Who would have ſaid unto Abraham, that Sarah ſhould have
